Age Ratio
From OrgChart.net
Age Ratio displays collective information concerning the age distribution of the company. It is often useful to report the Age Ratio in ranges (ranges can differ by industry and regulatory environment). Depending on the industry, age may be more or less important. However, the ability to calculate the average age and range of employees is necessary for concerns such as healthcare coverage or obtaining workers permits.
HR Professionals use the Age Ratio in an organization as a data point when defining beneficial programs for employees. Organizations with a young workforce might want to offer a tuition reimbursement program. Companies that operate overseas or in regulated industries may be required to maintain specific age ratios because of safety regulations, or when they relate to employees eligible for retirement. An Age Ratio may be combined with the Promotion, Performance and Salary information to validate that all departments, divisions and locations comply with Equal Employment Opportunity regulations. An Org Chart can aid in providing these statistics with efficiency and ease.
Most organizations report employee age in aggregate and as a range. Although ranges that are most useful differ by industry, most organizations report the following ranges:
- Under 18: Many jurisdictions prohibit employing persons who are under the age of 18 without a valid workers permit.
- 19-21: Special regulations might apply to employees between the ages of 19-21.
- Over 45: Employees who are over 45 may be protected by employment statutes.
